Song: Take It To Heart

I posted a new song at Bandcamp this morning — Take It To Heart. I’m still trying to find ways to express hope to myself, and my wife, in the midst of this terrible chaos of the United States. It’s not easy to find ways to channel the possibilities of the future when the present is day after day of chaos.

Hang in there.

Peace (and hope),
Kevin

Daily Create: From Nothing Comes Something

Ramble draft lyrics (song for Write Out)

This morning’s Daily Create prompt asked us to find our voice, and talk about creativity and openness. I thought about how often I wonder where the songs I write come from, and how odd that process is of starting on a blank piece of paper, working through words and chords, and finding yourself at the other end, with a song (sometimes, but not always).

Note: this lyric sheet is from a recent song I wrote and posted for WriteOut.

Here is my audio reflection:

Peace (and sound),

Music: A Friend To Navigate The Stars

I recently found out that a childhood friend of mine passed away. We played a lot of music together through the years but we had lost track of each other. I wrote this song to remember him.

Peace (and memory),
Kevin

Music: Gone For Good

This was a song that I wrote the other day, inspired (is that the right word?) by the world. I had thought I might try it with a small group I play with but it just didn’t fit with the mood of our music there.

Peace (and fury),
Kevin

Lyric Sheet, Annotated

Annotated Song Lyric Sheet

I was working on a new song on Sunday, and took a pic to send to a musician friend, and then thought, maybe I should annotate the mess to show the thinking.

Here is a bit of the song that this became, with help of my friend on lead guitar.

Peace (and song),
Kevin

Patterns And Evocations: Musical Memory

Patterns And Evocations Album Cover - 1

My wife and I spent just over two weeks in a fairly remote part of Nova Scotia right after our school years ended as a way to decompress and, to be honest, get ourselves away from our country for an extended period of time. We even took our dog, Rayna, for the long, long drive and our adventures on remote beaches and trails.

While in Nova Scotia, I did three things every morning:

  • I handwrote a journal entry in my Travel Journal
  • I wrote a morning poem (some of which I shared recently)
  • I composed a small piece of instrumental music via Garageband to capture a musical memory of places and experiences as we made our way around the south-eastern coast of Nova Scotia

Today, I pulled all of those musical tracks together into Bandcamp under the title of “Patterns And Evocations” as a way to remember our time in that beautiful place.

If you are interested in what I produced, here is the link for listening to the 18 tracks of Patterns And Evocations.

Peace (in place),
Kevin
