Advent24 Poem: Day One (Imagine The Loneliness)

Imagine The Loneliness

I won’t be sharing all of these every day, but my National Writing Project friend Deanna has once again, very graciously, set up a December calendar of poems with a theme of HOPE to be used for daily inspirational writing. I’m going to once again give it a try, to supplement or even take a break from my morning haiku.

Deanna writes, with eloquence: “Much like our lives, these poems offer hope and light, but some also explore the darkness that gives context to the light and informs our hopeful journeys.”

Here is my Day One poem, inspired by The Rider by Naomi Shihab Nye via https://poets.org/poem/rider

Imagine
loneliness
on wheels,
teetering
off balance,
as if skating
on ice formed
after a storm,
with its arm
outstretched
for support,
wondering
who will be
the one to
hold you
forever?

Peace (and hope),
Kevin
