I was busy this past year, writing and recording original music. I put out three album collections (one, traditional, with my original songs; and two others that were mostly electronic in nature) and a smattering of individual songs. That came to 50 total new published music tracks in 2025!
As the year winds down, I figure I would share the music here, as a sort of curation effort for myself.
The first collection came out of something a friend of mine asked for, for a project of his. He never used the track I created out of loops of a single instrument, but I was taken by the concept of making songs out of loops of one instrument. So I just kept on going with it, and the result was the Nothing But This album. I found the limits of a single instrument quite interesting to play around with.
Then I finished work on the album of original songs that I had been working on. My aim was to get it out the door by my birthday, a sort of tradition of mine now, and In The Slowdown was released before my deadline. I am proud of many of these songs, and a few I am playing now with a small band I formed with some friends this year (we don’t have a name yet).
My wife and I took a long vacation to the east side of Nova Scotia, and every day, I tried to compose music to capture our visit. The Patterns And Evocations gathered those tracks together, as a sort of memory quilt of music. These tracks were all made on my iPad, via Garageband.
In the past few months, I have been releasing single tracks as I finish writing and recording them. I am not sure what my plan is for them, and I have a few other songs I am working on. One of the singles was a song I wrote for my childhood friend, Murph, who passed away this year. I called it A Friend To Navigate The Stars.
One late 2025 song that I really enjoy playing and enjoyed recording is Mind The Quiet, which was sparked by something my father said to me. The song just emerged quickly, and it has interesting lyrics and an open sound quality to it that I like.
You can see and listen to all my music (the good and the not-so-good) at my Bandcamp site.
Peace (and sound),
Kevin
