Daily Create: A Box of Lucky Charms

Lucky Charm

The prompt for this morning’s Daily Create was to create a charm for our friend, Alan, as he tries to coax colleagues to join us in the morning creative efforts. I went to an old favorite of mine — Frinkiac, which uses The Simpsons as source material for memes and gifs — and realized they had added a comic strip feature. So I gave it whirl.

Peace (in the box),
Kevin

Poetry: Sunflower

I was reading up on sunflowers this morning for a haiku prompt and learned that while it is true that young sunflowers are heliocentric and turn towards the sun, adult flowers do not. So the video here is not quite accurate.

Peace (and sun and flowers),
Kevin

Green River Music Fest (my son’s edit)

My eldest son is an independent filmmaker and for the last few year, he and his crew of colleagues have been hired to do the videography and photography for a fairly large music festival around these parts — the Green River Music Fest. They shoot film and photos all day long for the festival’s social media and then edit videos for other uses. This supercut – which is so joyful! – is a showcase of my son’s editing skills, I think.

Peace (dancing to the music),
Kevin

Daily Create: No Device

No Device

The prompt this morning was to peruse examples of Removed, a digital art project where subjects pose as if using devices, but they are not. It’s a pretty fascinating photo project. I struggled a bit to figure out what I wanted to do. I didn’t want just a boring pose with no phone. (And after Sarah mentioned how she just used the eraser tool on her phone, I could have done things differently, too.) But I took a shot of me not holding my phone, and then went into Lunapic for some filtering explorations and ended on two filters that look like weavings. I kept the photo black and white, too.

Peace (making art),
Kevin

Poetry: Adrift Like Words

adrift like words

This started with a visual prompt at DS106 Daily Create — I ended up with jellyfish (the image used in this poem) — and then I launched an exploration of terms for groups of jellyfish, and then Todd made a poem about some of those terms as a remix, and then I liked his last lines so much, I grabbed them and built a new poem off the lines, also using some of the jellyfish terms.

And so it goes.

Peace (adrift),
Kevin

250 Years And Counting

We’re still trying to live up to the ideals rooted in the Declaration of Independence and we certainly are in a difficult track right now in my country. I remain hopeful, and defiant, that we find our footing again. We’re going to a Naturalization Ceremony later today to welcome new immigrants to the fabric of the country.

Peace (in July),
Kevin
