The prompt for VerseLove is all about country roads and I was reminded of a road that my wife and I traversed by car this week while on vacation in Puerto Rico.
Peace (getting there),

I didn’t follow the rules, which is par for the course, for the DS106 Daily Create, which prompted us to combine the name of a band with the name of a book and design the book cover. I could not resist Vampire Weekend At Bernie’s, even though Bernie’s is a movie and not a book.

This morning’s prompt at VerseLove was to write a cascade poem, in which each line of the first stanza becomes the last line of the following stanzas. It was a bit challenging, but fun, too.

I see that Sid Krofft has died. He was one of the inventors of the kids’ show that still plays somewhere in the back of my imagination: H.R. Pufnstuf. I could not name the characters nor the skits, but I remember the creative zaniness of it all and being swept up into a strange world.
That’s what sticks with me. (And I remember another Kroff show, Land Of The Lost, too).
I also remember a time when I was sick at home with the flu and my father came home from work with a book for me. It was a novelization of thee Pufnstuf world, and it just blew me away that someone could write a book set in the fictional television world. I am sure the writing was horrible and all that, but for a kid stuck at home, it was a gem of a story.
I appreciate the crazy imagination of Kroft (and his brother, Marty, who had already died).
Peace (and television),

I wrote this memory poem about baseball for a baseball poetry festival. My poem did not get chosen so I decided to make it in this format.
Peace (and play),

I took part in a poetry workshop yesterday as part of a literary festival in a nearby town. The theme of the workshop was “motion” and after we read and analyzed a poem — Wedding Vows by Wyatt Townley — we wrote our poems, using falling and motion as elements. For some reason, I remember back to being inside a piano, for a Prepared Piano piece, back in my undergraduate days.
Also this morning, I wrote this one for VerseLove — a poem about lists.

And then, in a response to my friend Algot (whose Sunday poems I always try to respond to with a haiku), I made this little one:
