Poem/Story: A Hawk’s Unexpected Flight

Hawk on the Hunt

I wrote this morning’s Haiku poem off Mastodon, with the prompt of “wings” and the poem connected directly to a small story I shared yesterday about an encounter with a hawk on our bike path.

I was riding the bike on our bike path yesterday, coming up on another rider, when a red-tailed hawk swooped down in front of the biker right in front of me, and glided on open wings for a few minutes along the path, as if guiding the two of us forward. We just kept following the hawk. Then it soared up as elegantly as it had swooped down and was gone. As I came to safely pass the other biker, we both looked at each other and said, nearly at the same time: “How cool was that?”

Peace (all a-flutter with wonder),
Kevin
