Archiving the NetNarr Alchemy Lab

The other day, my friend, Wendy, asked about the status of an old collaborative project that was done for Networked Narratives, in which a bunch of us created artwork for a 360-degree immersive “Alchemy Lab” project. The project was created in ThingLink, but since I can’t justify the annual fee, the lab is only visible to myself, as the owner.

So I decided the best thing I could do is to give a screencast tour of the lab, if only to curate and archive it. The result is the video here, which is just me, clicking on icons to see if the media still lives where it once was located. It’s not perfect, but it’s something.

Read more about the project from a previous post.

And here is a presentation I had created for a conference workshop at one point, capturing some of the elements of the Alchemy Lab experiment:

Peace (on the tour),
Kevin

  1. Many thanks for keeping at least a relic of the lab experience. The web, it frays, rips, without the caring weaver or mender.

    1. I am the caring mender
But my skill is no match
For the holes that lie gaping
      From bird sites gone feral.

      I am the weaver
      Choosing red threads
      With an eye for colour
      Yet my visible stitches
      Crude and on show
      Would make a finer coder
      Turn in their digital grave.

Maybe one day we’ll have a bot to surf the web, find the holes and generate a patch of letters.

  2. Thanks Kevin,
This was agave project and and now I can repair some of the holes in my blog post.

Poem on the anti-spam (vault cop)

The web is a vast vault
    Some doors with keys
    So many without
    Where are the cops
    When we need them
    To stop the carnage
    Of links gone rogue.

    1. Of links gone rogue
      — Wendy T.

      Some things fall
      silent, quiet, as
      they splinter apart

      Our maps no longer
      function as they
      once did,

      some lines now
      barely navigable,
      from here to nowhere

      We orientate ourselves
      to each other, then,
      lights in a constellation
